Each bar shows your progress toward the next point. The time below it is how much practice that point still needs, in game time, with approximate real time in brackets. It advances while you practise that attribute or skill; Wisdom affects your learning rate. The benefit below it shows the next skill milestone and the value needed to reach it.
Learning works exactly as in Shirania: about 4 experience per hour of practice (Wisdom changes it), and a point costs 90 to 3600 experience depending on how high it already is.

How pondering works
Pondering a thing grows Wisdom. Each new pondering sitting rolls its relevant skill once. Positive levels make it 10% faster per level; interrupted sittings keep their roll and progress. At 100%, observation is complete. If its name still escapes you, you can try to recall it separately; its useful actions remain available.
